Whitehaven is a small town and port on the coast of Cumbria, England. Historically a part of Cumberland, it lies equidistant between Cumbria's two largest settlements, Carlisle and Barrow-in-Furness, and is served by the Cumbrian Coast Line and the A595 road. It is the administrative centre of the Borough of Copeland and an unparished area.
Located on the west coast of the county, outside the Lake District National Park, Whitehaven includes a number of former villages, estates and suburbs, such as Mirehouse, Woodhouse, Kells and Hensingham.
The bike route for 1 lap (6.25 miles) for novices and 2 laps (12.5 miles) for sprint distance turning left onto the B5295 then after 200 metres taking a left hand turn onto Overend Road. Care must be taken as this can busy depending on the time of day! Needless to say the Highway Code must be followed at all times as safety is paramount. A third of the way down you then begin a fast descent all the way through this road for about 2/3 of a mile until you take a left hand turn on the roundabout to join Egremont Road (A595). You follow this road for ¾ of a mile then turn left at the traffic lights (abide the Highway Code) to join Crow Park Way. You follow this way, for ¾ of a mile approximately turning left at the roundabout and then left again back onto Egremont road. (A marshal and signage will be there). You then continue on Egremont Rd for 700m and then turn left towards Moor Row (A marshal and signage will be there), you then head into Moor Row with the road bearing left continoulsy for about ¾ mile and then join Dazlell Street. You follow Dalzell Street for 1¾ miles to then rejoin the B5295 heading back towards Race HQ.
The run route follows circular route with mix terrain from Race HQ turning left, following paths. Onto Overend Road, bearing left all the way around, for Novices x 2 laps and sprint distance 3 laps.
